In this artwork, I construct the human face using vertical black lines, allowing fragmentation and unity to exist at the same time. The portrait is not drawn in a traditional sense.. it emerges through density, spacing, and restraint. By carefully controlling line weight and negative space, the image comes to life and shifts depending on how it is viewed.
The elongated lines create a sense of rhythm and movement, guiding the eye across the surface and shaping the emotional presence of the face. Rather than fixing the expression in one moment, I invite the viewer to complete it themselves. Perception becomes part of the artwork, turning the experience into something active rather than passive.
The stark contrast between black and white reinforces the tension between minimalism and complexity. What appears simple at first reveals depth and intensity over time. This piece reflects my belief that reduction can be powerful, that minimal elements, when used with precision, can evoke strong emotional responses and challenge the conventions of contemporary portraiture.
