In this artwork, I explore the tension between abstraction and realism through a disciplined system of vertical black lines. At first glance, the composition appears purely abstract, a rhythmic sequence of lines varying in thickness and spacing. Yet as the viewer lingers, a woman’s face gradually emerges from the structure, formed entirely through absence, alignment, and interruption.

This optical illusion is intentional. By fragmenting the image into linear elements, I invite the viewer to actively participate in the act of perception. The portrait is never fully given; it reveals itself only through focus and distance. This interplay between visibility and obscurity reflects my ongoing interest in identity.. how it is constructed, concealed, and interpreted.

The monochromatic palette strips the work down to its essentials, allowing contrast, spacing, and precision to take center stage. Without color to distract, the linework becomes the language of the piece. The result is a controlled yet emotionally charged composition that challenges conventional portraiture while remaining unmistakably human.

This work exists on the boundary between order and emotion, presence and fragmentation. It asks the viewer not only to look, but to see. Questioning how much of reality is revealed, and how much is shaped by perception itself.
