In this artwork, I explore calmness and complexity through the fusion of portraiture and abstract expression. The female profile is stylized and serene, her eyes closed, allowing introspection to take center stage. I build the form with bold black layers and subtle grey tones, using contrast to highlight the contours of her face and hair while giving the piece depth and movement.
Layered brushstrokes and graffiti drips introduce energy and texture, bridging traditional portraiture with modern urban expression. The distressed background adds grit without overpowering the figure, reinforcing the tension between refinement and rawness.
This work is about duality: the quiet poise of the subject against the chaotic energy of urban mark-making, stillness against motion. By merging these elements, I aim to create a piece that feels both contemporary and timeless, inviting viewers to engage with emotion, identity, and the unseen layers beneath the surface.
