In this work, I explore minimalism and abstraction by allowing a face to emerge from a cascade of vertical black lines against a white surface. I intentionally keep the composition restrained, using simplicity as a way to create tension and depth within an otherwise static form.
Each line is carefully varied in thickness and length, so light and shadow begin to interact naturally. Rather than fully defining the face, I let the contours suggest themselves. I want the viewer to participate, to mentally complete the image and become part of the visual process.
This balance between clarity and obscurity is central to the piece. The portrait exists in a space between presence and absence, where the image feels both revealed and withheld at the same time. By working exclusively in black and white, I remove distractions and focus entirely on perception, rhythm, and emotion.
For me, this work demonstrates how simplicity can carry complexity. Through abstraction and restraint, I aim to evoke a quiet intensity.. an image that lingers, challenges perception, and invites both intellectual reflection and emotional connection.
